Summer 2024- A round up

As I sit watching the rain, with a cardi snuggled around me I realise we are fully into Autumn and it seemed like a good time to reflect on what’s been a hectic summer.

The February retreat led me to recruit two new trainers, Claire and Katy who have been incredible. Both of them have delivered sessions with awesome feedback. They have been such a support to me and I feel very lucky to have found them. Claire has also been trained to assist with certification workshops…. Keep your eyes peeled for more of them. Ireland you are on the plan for 2025!

Talking of Ireland, there were a few trips across to the Emerald Isle! I’ve been to Derry, Dublin and also Arklow. Each trip has been fabulous, a bit soggy but always great fun.

BSAVA Poster Winner

Clare Jones and I had spent a lot of last year collecting an overview of the frequency of CPR training within the UK and the results were not entirely unexpected. So many of you have minimal training, no wonder we feel so rubbish about it most of the time! I’m seeing changes though so it will be interesting to do the same questionnaire again next year. Claire pulled this all together and we did a poster abstract for BSAVA, which won best poster!

BVA live

June had me in Birmingham to deliver a well-attended session at BVA live. I do love BVA live, the cocktails were spectacular, as was the company. We had an Insta meet up and I got to catch up with some lovely RVNs. I may have had one slushy too many and had a very early night! The whole event was amazing, the 6-hour drive home not so spectacular but I hope to be back next year- perhaps via train??

CPR for VetMed

I’ve been all over the UK helping teams feel a little bit better about something that is always so stressful in practice. A highlight of the summer for me has to be the CPR 360 day. A day limited to just 20 attendees and hosted by me and supported by Courtney. It was the most wholesome day with a really positive vibe. The lift broke but all the nurses were just amazing, we’ve got this they said and just all cracked on setting up! A blend of nurses and students with some wonderful peer teaching seen throughout the day. I loved it and there’ll be more of these! Huge thanks to Pioneer for sponsoring it.

VN Spark- lit up the community

Nurses supporting nurses, oh nice path into VN spark! Another highlight. A day absolutely jammed with content. Ooodles of tips to take home with relatable sessions from fellow RVNS. I performed a simulation on stage with some great volunteers and it gave me goosebumps to see how effective it could be. Lou has to be the first person I’ve seen receive a standing ovation, a so well deserved. Pop it on the calendar for next year gang.

And now we look to the retreat next week, the fourth sold out retreat. A weekend of CPR and RECOVER Certification in the glorious Cotswolds. These are just the best. Luxury rooms, a chef, yoga and CPR all weekend long. I cannot wait!
